Cramm This Book – a Review
There’s a book that just came on the market, and its title says it all: Cramm This Book: So You Know WTF Is Going On In the World Today by Olivia Seltzer and published by Philomel Books.
Seltzer, now 18, started the Cramm newsletter when she was just 13 to help explain to other kids what is going on in the world.
This book, written for kids 12 and up, further explains some pretty weighty topics: The Isms and Phobias; The Wars; The Movements; The Disasters.
I think the book might be too much for some 12-year-olds, but I can see being helpful for parents, grandparents, teachers, and other caregivers.
I have a copy on order.
Like Seltzer says in her introduction, “You can’t change the world unless you know about it.”
Normally, I will only review middle grade fiction on this blog, but given the earth-shaking recent situation in Ukraine, I figured it deserved a mention.
While Seltzer doesn’t write about the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, she does offer insight into other wars.
Understanding the basic causes of most wars will go a long way to ferreting out the reasons for current conflicts.
With understanding comes compassion.
With compassion comes kindness.
With those two things, a person should be able to answer the question:
Why is this important to me?
