Everyday Magic A to Z
You might roll your eyes at the idea of everyday magic.
Go ahead, I’ll wait. 😊
But when you’re done rolling your eyes, take a look around you.
Finding everyday magic is a beautiful way to live.
Every day holds magic.
Kids are open to it.
That’s why it so often features in their books.
It’s also a good antidote to sadness and despair.
Mr. Rogers said, “Look for the helpers.”
I’ll add, “Look for the magic.”
Magic A to Z
A—The magic of an apple as it grows from a tiny soft pink bud, a flower, then morphs into a hard red (or green or yellow) orb of such sweetness it can make you giddy.
B—The magic of a blue sky which can change from dark velvet to rain-soaked blue to serene Pacific Ocean gray-blue and back to velvet.
C—The magic of candles that are simply waxy cylinders until a spark ignites their wick and they become magic vessels of light.
D—Dandelions are the magicians of the weedy world. Yellow sunshiny heads become fairy wishes of fluff.
E—Every day is a miracle that we get to open our eyes, set feet on the ground and live a life of possibilities. Magic? Miracle? Same thing.
F—Frogs. Seriously, there are more than 5000 species of frogs. You can find frogs that are blue and red and green and brown and orange. A magical rainbow of frogs!
G—Gems are as multifaceted as people and, in their glittery composition, as awe-inspiring as magic itself.
I—Ice cream is the food of the magic gods. Sweet, creamy; that’s magic right there.
J—Jellybeans. You think they’re magic, too, right? Or is it just me?
K—The magic of a kite right at the balancing point between effort and the wind catching it and lifting it skyward.
L—Looking spreads the magic before your very eyes. Like a bountiful feast. You simply need to focus and see the magic that’s right there.
M—Mercy offers you the magic of a second chance.
N—Nights when the stars flare like candles or when the clouds collect above you like your favorite quilt. Magic.
O—The magic of staying open to curiosity, to hope, to possibilities.
P—Pansies are like the hopeful face of a child. A face in a flower? That’s magic.
Q—The magic of just the right question at just the right time that unlocks the magical answers and spills them in front of you so you can’t unsee them.
R—Royalty is the lineage of a powerful family through the centuries. Kings, queens, noblemen and women, wizards. The very idea of royalty conjures up visions of Magic!
S—The magic of space doesn’t require a NASA scientist to appreciate. When you look at space, you’re looking deep into the ages.
T—A teacup is a magic vessel, holding a magical elixir. Both have the power to soothe and to inspire conversation.
U—Umbrella. Seriously, who thought of the umbrella, that magical invention that allows your head to stay dry and offer you a waterfall at the same time!
V—Vigil is the magic time between life and death, filled with prayer and hope and love.
W—Who can argue that water isn’t magic? Dew drops to waterfalls. It has the power to quench a thirst, to carve canyons, to grow a flower or an ocean.
X—What about maps and the quintessential, magical X that marks the spot? What treasure might be discovered there?
Y—Yesterday is magic because it was just here! Oh, wait, no it wasn’t. Yesterday can’t be here. It was always yesterday. Weird magic right there.
Z—Fill your life with the magic of a zest for living, curiosity, spirit, energy, love.
Let me know what magic you find in your every day.
I’d love to hear from you.
I hope you have a magical day.

I really like what you wrote about water! Also, I won’t disagree that candles are magical, but coffee is definitely the first word that comes to my mind for that letter! Oh also, if you start doing the marketing for umbrellas, I might finally buy one 🙂
Hey Griff! Thanks for reading. You’re a funny one. You’re right about C for coffee. Not sure why coffee didn’t make the cut and override candles. I even wrote this before I (*gasp*) cut back on coffee! 🙂
