Mid-Year Check-In
Here we are, halfway through the month and halfway through the year.
How’re you doing on those goals you set back in January?
Have you reviewed them lately?
Maybe you’ve finished them?
Or are making good progress.
If so, yay, you!
Maybe you’ve set them aside?
No shame.
No judgment.
Just wondering.
If you haven’t done the things you expected/hoped/thought you’d do, do you care?
Maybe they weren’t as important as you thought.
Or maybe they were so important you were afraid to start or continue.
Yeah, there’s that.
If you’ve got goals yet to be completed, I hope you’re making progress and/or are having big epiphanies.
Personally, I altered my goals.
I realized that one of my manuscripts wasn’t ready to be queried.
So I’ve crossed out that goal, and now I’m revising the manuscript.
A major revision.
It feels good to have more writing experience now and to be able to apply it to a story I love.
Well, I love the characters.
They are so real to me that I can close my eyes and picture them romping around on their farm.
I just need to give them a better story so I can love that, too.
Another manuscript I finished a couple of months ago is in the hands of one more reader.
Once I get that back, I’ll start that revision/editing process.
I recently joined a group of writers who meet on Wednesday mornings for two hours via Zoom to write.
Yeah, it seemed weird to me, too.
Until I did it.
There’s something about knowing you’re in your spot, doing your thing, with other people also doing their thing, and not moving for two hours.
I get a lot done.
I write all the other days of the week, too, but that Zoom room writing is super productive.
Depending on your goal, butt in chair is a pretty powerful step.
If you need more of a cheerleader to finish your goals, try any of these books.
Finish: Give Yourself the Gift of Done by Jon Acuff
Start: Punch Fear in the Face by Jon Acuff
The Slight Edge: Secret to a Successful Life by Jeff Olson

Hi Sherry. Thank you!
Thank you for the timely review and motivational pep talk, just the titles of the books you mentioned can be inspiring!
Thank you, Terri.
I love The Slight Edge! Such a great book!
Hi Emily,
Wasn’t it just one of the most inspiring books?! I bought extra copies when it first came out and gave them to people.
