There is so much to be sick and tired about.
We all have people who seep into our lives unbidden—or maybe even bidden—who anger us, sicken us, leave us speechless, and just tire us out.
We wonder when they’ll leave and how much of our soul they’ll take with them.
These people are definitely not Unicorns and Glitter.
Their footprints are more like dog excrement and scorched earth.
I am a firm believer that every person has a purpose…even those who aren’t Unicorns and Glitter.

It’s hard to believe that some people have any decent purpose.
The ones who sicken us?
What is their purpose?
They wake you up.
They make you sit up and take notice.
How many people are popping up like prairie dogs now and looking around them in shock.
People—who previously may have trusted and allowed others to do their jobs—aren’t so complacent anymore.
This is a good thing.
Awareness is both a gift and an obligation.

See what’s happening.
Take notice.
Plant your flag.
Then see where you can take one bold step toward change.
If you’re a writer, you can use it all for fodder.
It’s all seeds for stories.

All those feelings roiling inside you?
Give them to your characters.
The events?
Plot points.
I’m not being cavalier here.
We’re living in strange, unhealthy, and often horrific times.
Certainly stories don’t fix everything.
But the stories you create from this will give strength to others to survive their own scorched earth.
Every generation has at least one event or person that leaves it reeling and wondering how anyone will survive.
Show your readers how to survive, thrive, and make changes for good.
We all want direction.
Turn your experiences and emotions into guidance.
And while you’re at it, get the addresses of helpers so you can make your voice heard.
Turn your vitriol into excoriating letters or hand-painted signs that show where you stand and where you expect the helpers to stand.
Society may not survive as we would like it, but survivors come out stronger, more aware and able to douse the next scorched earth that flares under our feet.
Until next week,
~ Gail
