Do Some Carving

What do you do all day?

I’m retired and I still don’t have enough hours in my day.

I have a tip for you:  If you’re postponing working on a pet project, hoping for that day in the future when you’ll only have time to write (or whatever your project is), that day will never arrive.

It’s a mirage!

Unless, you have no children, no pets, no friends, no family.

Life happens!

But so does carving.

Carve out time in your lively day for what you love to do.

If you’re lucky, you’ll be able to carve out the time daily.

But even if you only find time a few times a week, GO WITH THAT!

Please don’t wait.

I waited.

Now I get up super early and sit at my desk writing and reading until the rest of my day calls me.

I know a lot of people don’t love to get up early.

I have my son to thank for my love of early morning.

Do some carving

When he was an infant, he’d be up and ready to start his day around 2am.

At the time, I didn’t love that.

But over time, I found a rainbow: quiet time with my baby, a love of coffee, and now an internal clock that won’t let me sleep much past 5am.

Look for your rainbows.

I also get writing time after dinner when my sweet husband cleans up the kitchen.

Sometimes, if I’m very lucky, I get time during the day to write, too.

Like today when I’m watching my daughter’s dog and am pretty much homebound…except I need to take him for another walk in about 15 minutes.

So that’s how I carve out my time.

How do you do it?

And what am I doing with my time?

Working on a Picture Book to enter into a contest at the end of April.

I just sent off a Middle Grade novel to an editor—that’s a project I’ve been working on for about a year.

My last big project is another Middle Grade novel that is jumping up and down for my attention.

So I’ve got lots of fun things to do.

And I will not be fooled by that mirage again.

I know it doesn’t exist.

Have a great week!
