What’s Your Version of a Perfect Summer Day?
Wouldn’t it be nice to stick a bookmark into your busy life and go play?
After all, it is summer.
Tomorrow’s Independence Day and you don’t get much more summery than that.
Here’s my version of a perfect summer day.
And then you can tell me yours.
Sunshine would be nice.
Where I live, there’s not a lot of that lately, so if I look out my window
and see anything even remotely like a sunny day, I am giddy.
Then I need coffee.
Hot coffee with a splash of cream.
Oh, who am I kidding?
Give me a big splash of cream in my coffee.
I’ll have it in my flamingo mug that my sister gave me on one of our last happy visits.
Next, I’ll go sit in a lounge chair outside in that elusive sunshine.
I’ll drag out my stack of IRL books and my Kindle.
What will I read?
I’m between books at the moment.
I’ve just finished reading Educated: A Memoir by Tara Westover.
I finished An Apartment in Paris by Colette O’Connor before that.
And before that I read A Narrow Door by Joanne Harris (author of Chocolat).
So, what’s next?
A stack of unread books to choose from makes me giddy, too.
I feel like reading something light and happy because my old, little dog is showing signs of decline which I’m helpless to do anything about.
SO! I need happy, happy, happy books.
My choices are Just Harriet by Elana K. Arnold (some sort of a spin off of Harriet the Spy, I think—I could be wrong), The Lost Fairy Tales (book 2 in the Pages and Co. series) by Anna James, The Good Thieves by the Katherin Rundell (author of the wonderful Rooftoppers) or The Book of Hopes edited by Katherine Rundell.
Maybe I’ll finally read The Natural World of Winnie the Pooh, which I bought a few years ago on a friends’ trip to Sonoma.
I’ll let you know what I decided on.
In the meantime, if you’re looking for a grown-up book, check out any of the ones I mentioned.
I recommend them all.
Your turn!
What is your perfect summer day?
Let me know in the comments.
Wherever your day takes you and whatever you do, enjoy your play day.
Don’t worry—everything “important” will be waiting for you whenever you decide to come back.
So go assert your independence from “normal” and have a lovely summer day.
Until next week,
~ Gail
