5 Favorite Things
Hello.
Did you find inspiration in last week’s solar eclipse?
Did you actually see the solar eclipse?
Some people in California were able to see a nibble that the moon took out of the sun.
But it didn’t darken our sky.
I didn’t see a thing.
Boohoo.
Although I couldn’t understand all the hype about the eclipse (Sorry!), one thing that did make me happy about it was how the country (or, at least parts of the country) came together despite backgrounds, genders, political affiliations, or whatever, to stand together and view our cosmos, understanding that we’re all in this together. (All Is Ours…see last week’s post).
And here are five writerly things that make me happy, too.
Writing Tip: Readers should love your main character, but as the writer, you need to be evil and keep throwing things at them until they almost break.
Favorite Website: I love England—the England that looks like a fairytale.
This website, www.aladyinLondon.com, keeps that spell alive for me.
I am always inspired by her posts about England and her lovely photos of the homes and streets, villages and landmarks there.
She makes me imagine so many stories that could take place in those settings.
She posts about more than England though.
Take a look.
Favorite Writerly Quote: “You have to write the book that wants to be written; And if the book will be too difficult for grown-ups, then you write it for children.” ~ Madeleine L’Engle.
Favorite Book of 2024 (so far): Simon Sort of Says.
Author Erin Bow was able to take a horrific event that’s all too familiar these days and write it into the plot of an uplifting story.
Favorite Coffee: Last week, I mentioned Starbucks’ latest seasonal drink: a hot, lavender oatmilk latte, which is my new favorite drink on special occasions (of which I’ve created six special occasions just so I could have this drink).
But on a day-to-day basis, my favorite coffee is Safeway’s organic French roast, decaf and regular.
I mix them together.
I also have a frother that I use with Meyenberg goat’s milk (it froths better than any other milk or cream).
I add a heavy sprinkle of cinnamon and ground ginger, pour in the coffee, delicious!
It’s enough to power me through a chapter or two.
That’s all for today.
Have a lovely week.
Until next time,
~ Gail
